OpenAI finds workplace AI use crossing traditional job boundaries
OpenAI analyzed more than 800,000 work-related ChatGPT messages and classified 16.8% of all work messages and 43.5% of occupation-specific messages as tasks traditionally associated with another occupation. Marketing and engineering tasks travelled especially widely.
Why it matters: AI may reorganize handoffs and role boundaries before those changes appear in job titles, staffing plans or conventional productivity measures.
