What changed
Microsoft introduced Home for combined chat, Cowork and live Office documents; Code for natural-language apps and workflows in a tenant-hosted managed runtime; and Autopilot, a persistent cloud agent with its own identity, memory, computer and workspace. Home and Code begin Frontier rollout in coming weeks, while Autopilot enters private preview at month-end.
Why it matters
Document editing, application building and persistent autonomous work now converge behind one enterprise identity and billing plane. Permissions, unattended execution, generated-code hosting and usage-based charges become linked governance boundaries.
What to do
Pilot with synthetic tenant data and a disposable identity. For one Code app and one Autopilot task, record the selected model, plugins, data, writes and charges; test a denied action, delayed cancellation, identity revocation, audit completeness and deletion.
Caveat
Most capabilities are staged previews or future rollouts. Sandboxing, governance and productivity claims are vendor-reported, and broad availability, pricing details, independent reliability and failure evidence remain incomplete.
