Foundry Local connects Qwen3.8 to on-device coding agents
Microsoft documented an on-device agentic coding path using Foundry Local, Qwen3.8-27B and GitHub Copilot. A four-bit package is approximately 18 GB and is intended for compatible consumer GPUs with at least 24 GB of VRAM, keeping repository context on the local machine.
Why it matters: Local inference can reduce recurring API cost, network dependency and external code transfer, while exposing the practical tradeoff between privacy, hardware requirements, model quality and agent-harness compatibility.
