Claude Code 2.1.302 changes auto mode and forked subagents
Anthropic's immutable Claude Code 2.1.302 release adds client-side auto-classifier model selection and an idle-compaction control, enables fork subagents by default across print, SDK, desktop and VS Code surfaces, caps concurrent prompt and agent hooks at 12, and fixes large-image, MCP, gateway, telemetry and cloud-routine failures.
Why it matters: Defaults now change delegation, concurrency and the model making some permission decisions. The release improves observability and recovery, but it can also alter cost, execution order and authority without an application-code change.
