OpenAI previews private safety processing for zero-retention API customers
OpenAI opened early testing of Private Safety Processing for eligible API customers using Zero Data Retention. The design detects abuse patterns across related interactions without personnel seeing content, supports customer-controlled storage or customer-key-encrypted OpenAI storage, and returns a narrow safety signal rather than request content.
Why it matters: The preview tries to reconcile enterprise confidentiality with cross-request abuse detection, turning storage location, keys, alert visibility, enforcement, exceptions, and audit evidence into concrete architecture decisions.
