Google ships Gemini 3.8 Live with parallel voice reasoning
Google released stable Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking endpoints through the Live API. Both accept text, image, audio and video with 131,072-token input and 65,536-token output limits. The standard model defaults to non-blocking function calls, while Extended Thinking can reason, speak and run asynchronous tools in parallel.
Why it matters: Voice agents can now acknowledge a user and continue a conversation while background tools or longer reasoning remain active. That makes turn completion, tool completion and user-visible narration separate states that applications must govern explicitly.
