ChatGPT adds optional personalization and saving to Temporary Chat
OpenAI began rolling out controls that let a user start a Temporary Chat with memories, custom instructions, and plugins from regular settings, or later save the conversation to history. Non-personalized mode remains the default; personalized temporary chats do not create new memories, while saving converts the conversation into a regular chat governed by account-level settings.
Why it matters: The word temporary no longer describes one uniform privacy boundary. Inherited context, connected tools, history, future memory use, and model-improvement settings now depend on choices made at chat creation and when saving.
