Kimi K2.6 pushes open coding models into day-long execution and larger swarms
Moonshot AI released Kimi K2.6 for long-horizon coding, coding-driven design, proactive agents and expanded agent swarms. It was available through Kimi, the app, API and Kimi Code, with open weights; Moonshot described swarms of up to 300 sub-agents and 4,000 coordinated steps.
Why it matters: The release shifts the open-model frontier from answering coding questions toward maintaining state across hours, using tools and coordinating heterogeneous workers. It also gives builders a downloadable alternative for persistent agent systems.
