Databricks removes Anthropic models from IL5 GovCloud workspaces

Starting 19 September, Databricks removed Anthropic models from AWS GovCloud and AWS GovCloud DoD workspaces with DoD IL5 selected. Those workspaces can no longer create or use endpoints that serve Anthropic models.

Why it matters: A documented compliance-boundary change can break or invalidate regulated model-serving workflows even when the application code is unchanged. Teams need a verified replacement path, not an assumed provider swap.

Why it matters: Frontier models are moving into the highest-sensitivity operational environments, where identity, isolation, provenance and vendor interchangeability matter more than a chatbot interface.

Anthropic's US defense supply-chain status remains contested

A federal court ordered the Pentagon's Anthropic supply-chain designation and related directives rescinded on 27 August. On 3 September, the US under secretary of defense for research and engineering nevertheless said Anthropic is still considered a supply-chain risk by the department and defense industry.

Why it matters: The court remedy has not produced a clear operational procurement status. Defense contractors cannot safely infer from either political reassurance or the ruling alone that Anthropic is approved, blocked or contractually available everywhere.

Pentagon awards four frontier AI prototype contracts

The US Department of Defense announced agreements with Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and xAI, each carrying a ceiling of 200 million dollars. The CDAO program targets agentic workflows for national-security challenges rather than a single production procurement.

Why it matters: The awards broaden defense dependence across multiple frontier-model providers and make agentic government workflows a funded procurement category.
