Anthropic previews a standard for agents operating physical equipment
Anthropic opened the Model Hardware Standard to an initial group of research labs and advanced manufacturers. The model-agnostic specification describes programmable instruments through common read and write primitives, device metadata, safety limits, MCP, command-line, and code interfaces so agents can coordinate microscopes, liquid handlers, robotic arms, and other equipment.
Why it matters: It moves tool interoperability from software APIs into laboratories and factories, where an incorrect action can damage equipment, invalidate experiments, or create physical harm. Device-level limits and evidence now matter as much as model reasoning.
