What changed
OpenAI released Codex CLI 0.167.0 with a no-daemon agent command center, unread-result markers, connected-backend switching that preserves drafts, local-image previews, a Vertex AI setup path, optional system proxy use and expanded approval-time patch details.
Why it matters
The release makes parallel agent results and provider changes easier to inspect from the terminal while surfacing more context at approval time. It also adds new provider, image and proxy paths that change credentials, network routing and local-data exposure.
What to do
Pin 0.167.0 on one workstation, open the command center, switch between two non-production backends, preview a synthetic image and exercise a network approval. Verify draft retention, credential isolation, proxy routing, transcript links and rollback before wider rollout.
Caveat
The immutable GitHub release establishes shipped code but not cross-platform reliability. Vertex setup is feature-gated, proxy support is experimental, image previews depend on terminal support, and backend switching does not make model behavior or data policy equivalent.
