What changed
Google publicly launched Deep Review worldwide with two complimentary reviews per week, higher-volume API access through a Gemini API key and initial PDF or plain-text input. Its four-stage workflow segments documents, allocates compute, runs parallel checks and synthesizes grounded findings.
Why it matters
Researchers and technical teams now have a usable second-pass reviewer for logical consistency, claims and cross-document context. The system can widen access to structured critique, but it cannot replace domain experts, official peer review or legal and financial accountability.
What to do
Run a non-confidential document with known seeded errors, compare findings with two expert reviewers, record missed and spurious claims, and define which findings require human confirmation before connecting the API to drafting or CI workflows.
Caveat
Google reports opt-in pilots across more than 16,000 submissions, but the deployment and performance evidence is Google-led. Uploaded documents are retained for one year for display, multi-file input is not yet available, and high-level judgment remains human work.
