What changed
Anthropic and the U.S. General Services Administration expanded a OneGov agreement that gives federal, state, local, tribal and territorial government buyers a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. Direct purchases through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule are available now without a minimum spend; cloud-provider purchasing is planned for the coming months.
Why it matters
The agreement moves discounted Claude access beyond federal agencies and across product surfaces, changing procurement economics for public-sector teams. It does not collapse product, cloud, authorization or data-handling boundaries into one approval.
What to do
Public-sector buyers should price one bounded workflow through the GSA schedule, map its exact product and hosting route to FedRAMP and agency controls, and require model, retention, connector, human-review and exit terms before committing production data.
Caveat
The 40% discount and current GSA purchasing path are official, but Anthropic's $1 billion savings estimate and adoption outcomes are vendor-reported. Claude Enterprise's FedRAMP Moderate authorization is still in process, cloud-provider discounts are not yet available, and each model and service boundary must be checked separately.
