What changed
Anthropic added beta project tags for eligible Claude Enterprise organizations, letting administrators attach charge, client-matter or other cost codes to projects and view most project spend grouped by tag.
Why it matters
Cost tags can connect assistant use to existing finance and matter-accounting structures, making budget review more practical than a single organization total. Incomplete spend coverage and free-form tag governance can still create false precision.
What to do
Define an approved tag vocabulary, apply it to one non-sensitive project, reconcile tagged spend with invoices and gateway logs, and document which charges are excluded before using the report for allocation or client billing.
Caveat
The feature is beta for eligible Enterprise organizations and Anthropic says it covers most rather than all spend. Tagging improves allocation metadata but does not establish task value, correct client billing or complete cost attribution.
