What changed
Anthropic began rolling out Personal Finance in Claude, a US beta that connects bank and card accounts through Plaid and lets users query balances, spending, bills and up to two years of transactions. Claude cannot move, manage or invest funds.
Why it matters
The feature moves a general assistant into high-sensitivity financial context. Its read-only boundary limits transaction authority, but data retention, sharing, stale balances, duplicate accounts and model error still matter before users rely on any answer.
What to do
If eligible, link one low-risk account first, disable Plaid outside the intended chat, ask Claude to enumerate the transactions behind every figure, and verify material balances or bills against the bank before acting. Avoid shared links or artifacts containing account data.
Caveat
This is a gradual US beta for personal paid plans, not financial advice or a transaction service. Anthropic says chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used for training, but prior outputs remain in chats, artifacts or shared links until removed, and balances can be stale or incomplete.
